BWY Foundation Course


When: March - November 2015


Where: Udimore village hall, nr.Rye, East Sussex

Frequency: 10 day sessions over 9 months mostly Saturdays (9am - 5pm)


Taster session: Saturday 24th January 2015 (10am - 4pm)


Requirements: Minimum two year yoga class experience

Course Details

Who should apply

The course is designed for students who wish to deepen their understanding and knowledge of yoga for personal practice.


It is also a requirement for students who intend to attend BWY Teacher Training Course in the future.

Course Content

FC1 covers: asanas (postures) - forward bends, back bends, twists, inverted; basic anatomy; pranayama (breathing techniques with ratio); mudras and bandhas (techniques for directing energy); subtle energy (prana) flow giving deeper awareness of the channels of energy (nadis) and energy centres (chakras); a range of relaxation, concentration (dharana) and meditation (dhyana) techniques; yoga of sound (mantra); history of yoga; various schools of yoga; philosophy - Patanjali Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita;



  • Student's previous yoga experience should be minimum of two years class attendance
  • Students enrolling on the course will be required to take up BWY membership
  • A group of students working together will be maximum 16
  • There is no formal assessment but students should continue to practice regularly throughout the course (practices will be suggested by the tutor). Students will reflect and make notes on their practice in a journal form which will be sent electronically once a month to the tutor.

Length of course

8 Saturday sessions and 1 weekend session (Saturday and Sunday)


British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to students that achieve minimum 80% attendance.
